SCOOT-A-LONG IN ASSOCIATION WITH HORIZON MOBILITY

THE DISABLED HELPING THE DISABLED

Let me explain who we are.
Scoot-a-long was founded to help the disabled get out and about on the moors, for this we needed a scooter that we could rely on. We approached Horizon Mobility a company that has always helped us in the past with our crazy trips. As always they were only to willing to help, so we started to raise cash to buy the scooters we needed.

After a lot of hard work we became a Registered Charity on the 13th June 2007. Now we raise funds anyway we can to take out disabled kids and adults to places like the Camel Trail and to the moors in the South West.

We also have a Caravan at Tencreek just outside Looe generously donated to us by Jenny Floyd we have built a ramp leading up to the awing to help the disabled to get inside; we also have a wheelchair and scooter for those who need help to get around.
Some of the things we have done are we hold two Guinness World Records for the longest distance travelled on a mobility scooter (and yes it could only have been on a Horizon), we do bag packs whenever we can get them, street collections and we do table top sales, boat trips and raffles.

We have a team of dedicated and hard working people with a never say die attitude come rain, or snow (I would have said sun but we don’t get any) they are out collecting or getting prizes.
This never say die attitude has helped us get two world records; we have sat on the scooter in hail, rain, thunder storms, we have been in mist so thick that we had to stop for the night after only 24 miles as the scooter kept missing the caravan.

On our second record attempt (to smash our own record) we had to take the scooter swimming in the floods of 07 but again the Horizon scooter kept going up mountains, up to the running board in water, and in deep mud nothing would stand in it’ way it just kept going.

None of the scooters we used are special they are just ones off the production line but they are the only ones that Scoot-A-Long will trust to bring us home every time. This has now been ratified by Guinness as a new World record as from the 13th October this year (2009) it has taken two years to present and get it authenticated but all now done.

We have two door collections at Trago Mills, Newton Abbott on the 30th October and Liskeard on Halloween Night the 31st of October but we will be home long before night fall.
